Money Market: Bank deposits grow by 1.42pc
ACCORDING to the weekly statement of position of all scheduled banks for the week ended Aug 17, 2018 deposits and other accounts of all scheduled banks stood at Rs12,582.641 billion after a 1.42 per cent increase over the preceding week’s figure of Rs12,405.378bn.
Compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs11,551.465bn, the current week’s figure was higher by 8.92pc.
Deposits and other accounts of all commercial banks stood at Rs12,517.818bn against preceding week’s deposits of Rs12,340.640bn, showing a rise of 1.43pc. Deposits and other accounts of specialised banks stood at Rs64.823bn, higher by 0.13pc against previous week’s figure of Rs64.738bn.
Total assets rise by 1.98pc; borrowings jump 5.27pc
Total assets of all scheduled banks stood at Rs18,367.701bn, larger by 1.98pc over preceding week’s figure of Rs18,010.875bn. Current week’s figure is higher by 12.89pc compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs16,269.083bn.
Total assets of all commercial banks stood at Rs18,125.330bn, larger by 1.98pc over previous week’s figure of Rs17,771.845bn, while total assets of specialised banks at Rs242.371bn were larger by 1.39pc over the previous week’s Rs239.030bn.
Borrowings by all scheduled banks showed a rise in the week under review. It rose by 5.27pc to Rs3,511.276bn against previous week’s Rs3,335.480bn. Compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs2,598.708bn, current week’s figure is higher by 35.11pc.
