Two suspects killed, constable wounded in encounter

KARACHI: Two suspected robbers were shot dead and a policeman wounded in an encounter in Korangi Industrial Area on Monday, police said.

They said that the two suspects were looting passersby on a main road near Nasir Jump at 11.15am when a police patrol reached there.

On seeing the police, the suspects resorted to firing and three of the bullets hit Constable Arshad Mughal. The police returned fire killing both the suspects on the spot, said area SHO Jamal Leghari.

The police claimed to have recovered a motorbike and two pistols from them. The bodies were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre from a post-mortem examination. Later, the corpses were moved to a morgue for want of identification.

The SHO said that the constable suffered three bullet wounds in the abdomen, shoulder and leg. He was admitted to a private hospital where his condition was stated to be serious.

Robbers kill junk dealer in Surjani

A junk dealer was shot dead by criminals when he resisted a robbery bid in Surjani Town on Monday.

Police said three suspects stormed into a shop in Sector 4-B. As the owner, Bashir Ahmed, 40, put up resistance, the robbers fired at him and fled.

He sustained critical bullet injuries and was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
