Re-polling in Shangla’s PK-23 next month

SHANGLA: Re-polling in Shangla’s PK-23 constituency will be held on Sept 10, announced the Election Commission of Pakistan.

The ECP said the July 25 election in PK-23 was declared null and void as the women’s turnout was less than 10 per cent of the total votes cast.

It said the candidates of all parties, who had contested the July 25 election, would participate in the re-polling, while the district returning officer of Shangla will supervise the electoral exercise.

Shaukat Yousafzai of the PTI had won the PK-23 seat by a margin of 1,500 votes. Mohammad Rashad of the PML-N was the runner-up.

The election in the constituency was declared null and void under the Election Act 2017 over low women voter turnout on the formal request of Wali Khan, younger brother of PML-N candidate Mohammad Rashad.
