KRC president vows to improve horseracing

KARACHI: The Karachi Race Club (KRC) president Syed Sadruddin Shah has expressed optimism to improve horseracing in the metropolis.

“Efforts will be made to bring new horses and owners aimed at bringing a positive change in the equine sports,” he said while talking to members of the managing committee who were re-elected unopposed for a one-year term in the 29th annual general body meeting of the KRC on Saturday.

Shah, a former MNA from Sindh, is at the helm of affairs since 2008 and has inherited the passion for horse racing from his illustrious father the late Shah Mardan Shah Pir of Pagara.

One of the senior managing committee members Tajammul Hussain Mirza was elected as the chairman on the place that was fallen vacant after the resignation of Dr Farhan Essa. The latter was, however, accommodated as one of the stewards.

While Syed Ismail Shah and Irfan Mehdi have retained their slots, M.R. Hussain and Dr Abdul Karim Meher have staged a comeback. The new faces include Syed Muzaffar Ali, Nand Kumar Ghoklani and Gul Mohammad Rajor.

Of them, the trio comprising Mehdi, Hussain and Essa will represent KRC in the Jockey Club of Pakistan (JCP).

New managing committee: Pir Syed Sadruddin Shah (president), Tajammul Hussain Mirza (chairman), Syed Ismail Shah, Irfan Mehdi, Dr Abdul Karim Meher, Dr Farhan Essa, Nand Kumar Ghoklani, M.R. Hussain, Syed Muzaffar Ali and Gul Mohammad Rajor (stewards).
