NAB recovers Rs8.1m from ex-PARC employee

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has recovered Rs8.1 million from an ex-employee of the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council and returned it to the council chairman.

PARC Chairman Yusuf Zafar has received the cheque from director-general of Rawalpindi NAB, Irfan Naeem Mangi.

Ex-scientific officer of PARC, Muzaffar Nishat had been accused of corrupt practices as defined under the NAB ordinance and was avoiding appearing before the NAB court and was declared as proclaimed offender.

A red warrant was also issued against the accused, and consequently upon a report by Interpol, Mr Nishat was arrested in January this year on arrival at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport by a NAB investigating team.

Mr Nishat, being a member of the purchase committee, violated rules by fraudulently making advance payments to the tune of Rs9.7 million to a fake firm for the purchase of vehicles.

The accused misused his authority and caused loss to the national exchequer by purchasing vehicles at exorbitant rates and making advance payment to the fake firm.
