Abducted minor sisters recovered

BAHAWALNAGAR: Faqirwali police claimed on Tuesday to have recovered two minor daughters of a special person abducted four months ago and arrested the suspects.

According to the police, 50-year-old main suspect gave some intoxicant to 11-year-old and 14-year-old daughters of a resident of Chak 141/6R and abducted them along with his accomplices. They took the girls to the outhouse at Chak 98/B where they held the girls hostage and continued to abuse them for months. Two days back, the younger girl called her family by phone from a house in the neighbourhood of the outhouse. The police raided the outhouse and recovered the girls. They also arrested the suspects and registered a case against them. Further investigation was underway.

PUBLIC HOLIDAY: The administration announced public holiday on the Urs of Khwaja Nur Muhammad Maharwi today (Wednesday).

The Sufi saint’s shrine is located in Chishtian. Thousands of devotees from across the country participate in the Urs celebrations each year.

Deputy Commissioner SD Khalid issued notification for the holiday.

I-DAY: A number of ceremonies were organised in the district in connection with the Independence Day.

The main flag-hoisting ceremony was held at Bahawalnagar Haider Stadium. Deputy Commissioner SD Khalid and District Police Officer Ammara Athar hoisted the flag. A smart contingent of police presented a salute to the flag and the guests while from various schools performed tableaux. The ceremony was also attended by government servants and representatives of social and trade organisations.

Later, the DC and the DPO visited the graves of martyrs and laid floral wreaths on them. They also paid a visit to the District Jail and DHQ Hospital and distributed sweets and fruits among the inmates. More than 400 policemen were deployed for the security of the ceremonies.
