Uzair bounces back to make main round

LAHORE: Four players have qualified for the main round of the third Punjab National Senior Squash Championship as the qualifying round ended at the Punjab Squash Complex here on Tuesday.

In the best match of the day, Uzair Rasheed of Punjab went to full distance to beat Mohammad Samiullah of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He fought for 75 minutes to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat after dropping the opening two games. Uzair recovered to triumph 4-11, 7-11, 11-1, 11-8, 11-9.

In other match Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Abbas Shaukat defeated Haris Qasim of Punjab with the score of 9-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-9. After losing the

first game in a seesaw battle, Abbas won the next three games at the trot, though by close margin, to wrap up the victory.

Raees Khan of Army also came from behind to topple Mujahid Hussain 3-1 with the scores being 1-11, 11-3, 11-8, 11-7. Sadam-ul-Haq of Army cruised into the main round after sealing victory in straight games against Moin Rauf of Punjab 11-7, 11-7, 11-3. The main round starts from Wednesday.
