PESHAWAR: In order to create awareness about significance of cleanliness and water preservation, the Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) has contacted about 200 prayer leaders to highlight the core issues in sermons in their respective areas’ mosques.

Talking to mediapersons here on Friday, WSSP general manager operations Engr Ali Khan also urged the citizens to play proactive role in the company’s efforts to keep the city clean. He said clerics of local mosques had also been contacted to sensitise masses in their sermons to the importance of keeping their streets and localities clean and free from garbage and solid waste. He said more than 200 clerics were consulted in that regard.

Besides, he said WSSP employees would perform their official duties on the Independence Day for ensuring provision of water supply and sanitation services, including solid waste management, to the people of the provincial capital.

“We will ensure that cleaning of the main drainage lines and collection of solid waste from all the collection points is carried out before August 14, while additional staff had also been deputed to clean up streets and roads in the provincial capital,” Engr Ali explained.

The WSSP officer appealed to the citizens to extend cooperation to the sanitation staff by disposing of household solid waste at the collection points. He said that for facilitation of citizens to receive prompt response from WSSP officials regarding their queries and complaints, a complaint registration centre having toll free number 1334 had already been established.

Referring to public complaints, he said prompt attention was paid to the calls so that the people would not suffer. He also urged media, civil society organisations and social workers to join hands with WSSP in resolving local issues within shortest possible time.
