SBP warns of criminals seeking bank-related information

KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has cautioned the people to be aware of fake calls being made by some criminals posing themselves as SBP officials to get people’s personal and bank-related information.

The SBP said on Tuesday that fake telephone calls were being made to people by individuals impersonating them as officials of the bank and seeking personal information like CNIC numbers, bank account numbers, passwords, etc. on the pretext of verification of bank accounts.

“They also threaten to people that if such details are not provided their accounts will be closed or frozen,” the SBP said.

“The general public is informed that SBP does not seek such verifications directly with clients of commercial banks,” the SBP said.

“The State Bank time and again informs the general public through circulars, brochures and public awareness advertisements that people should remain beware of different kinds of frauds and should not share their personal or financial information like account number, PIN, ID, password, etc. to anyone.
