Six students faint during power outage

LARKANA: Six students fainted at government girls’ primary and secondary schools in Naudero due to suffocation caused by prolonged power outage on Monday.

The affected students Rafia (class VI), Parveen, Shazia (VI), Samina, Nadia (IX) and Nimra Kartiyo (IV) were provided first aid at the schools and later Nimra was shifted to Naudero hospital for treatment, the sources said.

Ms Nausheen Khokhar, headmistress of the government girls’ secondary school, told journalists that the electricity had been off since morning due to prolonged loadshedding, which had exacerbated the situation in the crammed classrooms. Students often had to suffer great inconvenience when temperature rose during unpredictable loadshedding hours, she said.

Ghulam Haider Narejo, president of the town action committee, announced holding protests against loadshedding if the situation did not change till Tuesday.

He said the outage was not only affecting students but it had also scuttled overall business activities and disturbed healthcare services in the town.

He said that PPP leaders had disappeared after getting themselves elected from their constituencies, leaving their voters at the mercy of their servants, who cared less about people’s issues.

Amanullah Brohi, line superintendent of Sukkur Electric Power Company for Naudero, said a fault developed in the main Lodhran grid station two days ago, forcing managers at the power distribution centre to resort to loadshedding.
