MCI to ask Iesco to cover exposed wiring, cables

ISLAMABAD: The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) is going to ask the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) to handle the naked and exposed electrical wires and cables in parts of the city in order to avoid any mishaps.

The issue was discussed at a meeting chaired by Mayor Sheikh Anser Aziz to review the performance of the streetlights directorate, during which Mr Aziz said precautionary measures are being made during the monsoon to protect electrical installations and exposed wiring and cables to prevent any untoward incident.

He told the electrical and mechanical director to contact Iesco to make arrangements to cover exposed wiring and cables and all electrical installations.

During the meeting, Mr Aziz was also apprised of special measures being taken to cover exposed cables and wires and warnings published in newspapers warning people from touching electric poles or letting their children do so.

He was told that a responsible officer from the streetlights division has been deputed at the MCI’s flood relief cell and is ensuring the timely addressing of complaints.

He also directed the streetlights division to make its vehicles operational and ensure the provision of funding to buy backup material.
