Wonder Craft: Fruit headband

Annual functions, special days and season celebrations are very common in schools and colleges. And these events often require special costumes or props. While preparation for such events can be exciting for you, it may become a burden for parents.

Let me help you out. There are several things which can easily be made at home without giving order to the tailors or props’ shops; for instance, headbands, wristbands, crowns, caps and various other such things.

Therefore, we will be making easy props in the weeks to come which will give you an idea of how to make them for yourself or your sibling. Let’s make an orange-themed headband, and you can make different fruits or vegetables headbands in the same way.

Things you need:

  1. Two felt sheets orange and yellow

  2. Hot glue

  3. A cup

  4. Scissors

  5. Button or (one-inch piece of Velcro)

  6. Ruler

Directions:

  1. Measure the circumference of the head, whatever the measurement, add 3-inches extra to it and mark this length on the orange felt sheet. Now mark two and half inches width, then cut this strip out, see picture 2 and 3.

  2. Draw two orange and two yellow circles with the help of a cup on the felt sheet. Trim the yellow circles slightly smaller than the orange ones; pictures 4 and 5.

  3. Cut one semi-circle from both orange and yellow felt sheet.

  4. Cut small orange triangles, check the size that could fit around the yellow circles, see picture 6. (If you want to add more colour to your band, cut green leaves either from paper or from the green felt sheet if you have one; but this is optional).

  5. Dab hot glue in the middle of orange circle and then put yellow circle on it, picture 7.

  6. Paste small orange triangles on the yellow circle, picture 8 and 9.

  7. To secure the endings of the band, you can either stitch button with the help of an elder or paste/stitch Velcro on each side of the band, picture 10.
