ANP leader injured in firing

QUETTA: A former senator and leader of the Awami National Party (ANP), Dawood Khan Achakzai, was injured in an attack on his guest house in the Jungle Piralizai area of Qila Abdullah district on Monday.

According to Zamarak Khan Piralizai, a relative of Mr Dawood, the assailants opened fire at the ex-senator’s guest house early in the morning when he was asleep, leaving him injured. The security guards immediately returned fire, forcing the assailants to escape.

The injured ANP leader was taken to the Civil Hospital.

“The condition of ANP leader Dawood Khan Achakzai is out of danger,” doctors at the hospital said.

Levies personnel, who rushed to the site after receiving information about the incident, have registered a case and started investigation. However, no arrest was reported.

ANP’s Balochistan president Muhammad Asghar Khan Achakzai and former MPA Zamarak Khan Achakzai condemned the attack on the ex-senator’s guest house and termed it a terrorist act.

They demanded an inquiry into the incident and arrest of the assailants.
