50,000 sit engineering entrance test

LAHORE: Over 50,000 candidates on Sunday sat the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore’s combined entrance test for admission to various engineering varsities in Punjab.

The test was held simultaneously at centres in Lahore, Kala Shah Kaku, Taxila, Islamabad, Rasul, Multan, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Gujrat, Mianwali, Rahim Yar Khan and Sahiwal.

Out of the 50,000 candidates, around 13,387 appeared for the test at the Lahore campus, 8,000 Multan, 6,450 Islamabad, 5,544 Faisalabad, 3,251 in Taxila, 3,158 Kala Shah Kaku, 3,095 Sahiwal, 2,757 Gujrat, 1,875 Rahim Yar Khan, 1,756 Bahawalpur, 800 Mianwali and 528 in Rasul. The result would be announced at midnight on July 22.

UET Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid visited the examination centres and appreciated their administrations for the arrangements. While talking to the media, he said merit, secrecy and transparency would be fully ensured at the entry test centres. The administration had taken several steps to ensure security of candidates.

“We should promote technical education because it has become future of the world,” he added.

Dr Khalid further said they were taking measures to upgrade the engineering syllabus according to global standards.
