141 political workers released

LAHORE: The deputy commissioner on Saturday withdrew arrest orders issued for the political activists under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) and released some 141 people detained in the Kot Lakhpat Jail for creating law and order situation in the city.

The DC had ordered arrest of some 300 political activists, including union council chairmen.

The SHOs of respective police stations also released such detainees on personal surety.

The other day, the Lahore High Court had ordered the government and the police to release all those detained unlawfully. It had also directed the police to release on personal surety those arrested against bailable offences.
