Four killed in landsliding

MUZAFFARABAD: A woman and three men were killed and another three persons were injured during land sliding as they were travelling on a wagon in the Kotli district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, police said.

The vehicle was travelling to the town of Nakyal from the nearby Saloon village amid heavy downpour when it met the accident near Baknara village at about 9:30am, said an official at Nakyal police station.

“As the vehicle was passing through a landslide affected area, a huge mass of earth fell on its front portion, killing the driver and three passengers on the spot,” he said. “Another three passengers were seriously injured, but two infants who were in the laps of their mothers were unhurt,” he added.

The deceased were identified as driver Muhammad Wajid, 40, son of Mohammad Iqbal, Karamat, 52, son of Said Mohammad, Nazia Bibi, 37, wife of Mohammad Akram and Mohammad Qadeer, 41, son of Mohammad Hussain.

The injured are Tauqeer, 35, Raqeeb, 65, and Safina Bibi, 42.
