KHAIRPUR: A gang of five suspects in police uniforms was busted when police stopped a car with a police warning light fixed atop it in Leghari village near Thari Mirwah town and recognised the occupants.

Upon being identified three of them managed to escape while two others were arrested, ASP Rai Mazhar Iqbal told reporters on Thursday.

He said a Kalashnikov, a repeater and some other guns with ammunition were seized from the car, which was impounded. He identified the arrested suspects as Muhabbat Suhag and Gul Mohammed Suhag, and said that those who escaped were Ashiq Suhag, Qurban Suhag and Gulzar Suhag.

A number of cases of heinous crimes, including kidnapping for ransom and robbery had been registered against them at various police stations, he said.

The ASP said that the arrested suspects were booked and produced in the Khairpur Antiterrorism Court (ATC) to obtain their seven days’ remand.
