Cop’s honesty

IN a speech recently delivered at Hyderabad, President Mamnoon Hussain said doing one’s duty was the highest form of honesty. Recently, a poor policeman, Abdul Raheem of Quetta, found a bag loaded with money. He considered it his duty to find its rightful owners and after reaching them handed in the bag to them. He then went back to his duty.

This is what is called honesty, which most of our public and private officials and workers lack. This is what our religion teachers us and this is what the Quaid-i-Azam expected of us. I salute this young policeman.

Some time back a Pakistani taxi driver in Dubai returned a bag full of money to its owner. This was reported in the UAE press but went unreported in Pakistan. Maybe honesty breeds no pride in its performance here.
