Protesters block highway over power crisis

QUETTA: Gwadar and Turbat remained cut off from Karachi on Tuesday from morning to evening as protesters blocked the Coastal Highway near Ormara in protest against suspension of electricity supply to Makran region.

Hundreds of protesters, holding placards and raising slogans against the government and divisional administration, marched on the highway. They were calling for restoration of power supply from Iran and provision of water.

They later blocked the highway linking Karachi and Makran by placing barricades and boulders at different places near Ormara.

A large number of vehicles, including cars and passenger coaches, remained stranded on both sides of the highway creating difficulties for thousands of people, including women and children.
