Red alert as dengue case detected

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa health department has issued a red alert after detection of dengue haemorrhagic fever case from Achini village.

The patient has been admitted to the Khyber Teaching Hospital, according to officials.

Another suspected patient from the same house was being investigated at the KTH, they said, adding his laboratory test was awaited.

During house-to-house survey, dengue larvae was detected in 10 houses, including the house from where the case was reported, officials said, adding spray was carried out in a cluster of 50 houses.

They said fumigation in these areas had also been planned.

The official said the district health officer and public health coordinator had been altered of the possible outbreak. However, they said a positive patient admitted to KTH was in stable condition.

More than 60 people died of dengue last year, mostly in Peshawar district, they said, adding health authorities are carrying out a campaign to safeguard people against the mosquito-borne ailment.
