Relative held for murdering woman

PESHAWAR: The city police have arrested a relative for murdering a woman drug addict on the outskirts of the city a couple of days ago.

Body of slain victim, Zeba, was recovered from open fields from the Pawaka village in the limits of the Pishtakhara police station.

SSP operations Peshawar Javed Iqbal told reporters during a press conference that following the investigation into the case, they had taken into custody Daulat Khan, the first cousin of the victim, on charges of murdering her.

Mr Iqbal said they had also recovered a pistol from the suspect, adding the woman was a drug addict and Hayatabad police had handed her over to the women crisis centre for 45 days to be provided with treatment.

Mr Iqbal said her father, Libas Khan, and brother, Abbas Khan had secured her release from the centre against the surety of Rs100,000 and taken her home.

He said the female again started venturing out and using drugs, angering her family. He said later Zeba’s cousin Daulat Khan killed her and dumped the body in fields in Pawaka area.

He said the police were also making efforts to arrest those who were providing drugs to Zeba.
