Jibran Nasir suffered bruises on chest, says MLO

KARACHI: Mohammad Jibran Nasir, an activist, lawyer and independent candidate for both national and provincial assembly seats in the Clifton and Defence areas, who was allegedly beaten up by the security squad of a judge on Monday evening, got his medical examination done at a hospital on Tuesday, which confirmed that he had suffered bruises, officials said.

Jibran claimed that he was thrashed by the policemen and briefly detained for not giving way to the judge’s vehicle owing to traffic gridlock near the Chief Minister House. However, South SSP Omar Shahid had told Dawn that the activist had “blocked” the judge’s vehicle, which led to the incident.

Frere police on Monday had reportedly refused to give him a letter for medical examination as the activist wanted to lodge a case against the security squad.

However, on Tuesday Jibran got a letter from the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee and got his medical examination at the medico-legal section of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

Additional police surgeon of the JPMC Dr Sheeraz Ali Khowaja told Dawn that Jibran had suffered “bruises” on his chest as per the medical report.

Saddar SP Asif Ahmed Bughio said that no case had been registered.

Mr Bughio said both Jibran Nasir and the commander of security of the Sindh High Court judge had submitted applications to the police against each other for lodging cases and the police were looking into the matter.
