PPP strips Sikandar Shoro of party post

HYDERABAD: Dr Sikandar Ali Shoro was on Tuesday removed as the deputy general secretary of the Pakistan Peoples Party’s Sindh chapter for violating party discipline.

The action was taken against him by PPP Sindh president Nisar Ahmed Khuhro through a notice.

Dr Shoro had formed an electoral alliance with Sindh United Party (SUP) president Syed Jalal Mahmood Shah against Malik Asad Sikandar — the PPP candidate for PS-82 Kotri — and also with Sikandar Rahupoto for Jamshoro district’s only National Assembly seat, NA-233. Rahupoto is a friend of former Sindh chief minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, who is contesting for the Sehwan (Jamshoro) seat of the provincial assembly.

Dr Sikandar Shoro has filed his nomination papers for PS-82 Kotri as an independent candidate. He is the maternal grandson of late Haji Siddique Shoro, who held the Kotri seat from 1988 to 1993. Malik Asad Sikandar won the seat in 1997.

Dr Shoro was denied a PPP ticket for any seat of Jamshoro after which he decided to take on his long-time rival but party colleague Malik Asad.
