NAB initiates graft inquiries

PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau has initiated inquiries against officials of Railway Estate Development and Marketing Company (REDAMCO), local government and forest departments for corruption.

The decision was taken at the regional board meeting chaired by NAB, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Director General Farmanullah Khan, according to a statement issued here on Friday.

It was stated that the accused persons illegally rented out 48 shops at Kharkhanoo Market in Peshawar in violation of rules.

The meeting authorised inquiry against officials of town municipal administration, Takht-i-Nusrati, Karak and others regarding corruption and corrupt practices. The accused persons have illegally awarded execution contracts of water supply schemes in the district.

Similarly, another inquiry was authorised against officials of district administration office, Kohat, regarding misuse of authority. The accused persons are allegedly involved in double payment for different development projects in gross violation of law.

The statement said the board also authorised inquiry against the administrations of South Waziristan and Khyber regarding embezzlement of welfare funds.

Another inquiry was authorised against officials of forest subdivision Mingora for selling state land in Swat district.

Besides, the board approved supplementary reference against Arshad Pervez and Nadeem Pervez of Sky Pharmacy Peshawar, for cheating public at large.
