Miftah rejects NAB allegations

ISLAMABAD: Former finance minister Miftah Ismail on Monday denied National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) allegations regarding validity of the contracts for the sale of natural gas liquids (NGLs).

Talking to Dawn, he said he would appear before NAB on June 20 though he was busy in his constituency in Karachi for electioneering.

The main allegations against Mr Ismail is that being the chairman of the Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) from November 2013 to October 2018, and head of the company’s board he and other members had validated contracts of gas extraction to a private firm owned by Iqbal Z. Ahmed in 2013.

He said the contract was actually awarded in 2012 and the company’s board renewed it temporarily in 2013 with a commitment that it would be rebid in six months. However, the bidding could not be held in the targeted time frame.
