ECP moved for staying land distribution

BAHAWALPUR: The distribution of land among thousands of landless people of Cholistan under Punjab chief minister’s package and the ongoing process of balloting has been challenged in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), it is learnt here.

The petition was filed by a local after he had been declared ineligible for the allotment of land under the criteria laid down by the Punjab government’s Board of Revenue (BoR).

In his petition, Muhammad Ali said the allotment of land to peasants at this [election] stage was tantamount to pre-poll rigging on the part of the former Punjab government. He pleaded to stay the process and leave it to the incoming government.
