Levies men posted at new pickets

LAKKI MARWAT: Around 20 Levies personnel withdrawn from the former members of KP Assembly and National Assembly, nazims and area elders have been posted at new checkpoints here in Tajazai.

“The Levies personnel have assumed new responsibilities on the orders of deputy commissioner Shahid Sohail, who also holds the office of commandant Levies force,” said an official on Wednesday.

He said that the new picket points had been established with the aim to enhance security of the district headquarters complex housing offices of the government departments. He said that the personnel would be engaged during general elections to maintain peace.

ELECTIONEERING: Several candidates who filed nomination papers to take part in the upcoming elections have kicked off electioneering by contacting the area elders and people to get their support.

In Naurang town, Ameerzada Khattak of QWP and Qareebullah of PML-N addressed meetings at several places and urged the people to reject traditional politicians if they wanted to see resolution of their longstanding problems.

Mr Khattak said that residents of the town lacked basic facilities, asking the former members of parliament to tell the people about their performance on this count. He claimed that QWP had always stood by the people in difficult times.

Mr Qareebullah said at his corner meetings that the residents of PK-93, Lakki Marwat-III, had been facing numerous problems and lacked facilities in the education, health, water supply, power and other sectors. He claimed that only PML-N could resolve their problems after coming into power in the province.
