Money Market: Bank deposits decrease

ACCORDING to the weekly statement of position of all scheduled banks for the week ended May 25, 2018 deposits and other accounts of all scheduled banks stood at Rs12,258.375 billion after a 1.45 per cent decrease over the preceding week’s figure of Rs12,083.590bn. Compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs10,992.696bn, the current week’s figure was higher by 11.51pc.

Deposits and other accounts of all commercial banks stood at Rs12,187.482bn against preceding week’s deposits of Rs12,016.010bn, showing a rise of 1.43pc. Deposits and other accounts of specialised banks stood at Rs70.893bn, higher by 4.90pc against previous week’s figure of Rs67.580bn.

Total assets of all scheduled banks stood at Rs16,581.186bn, higher by 0.58pc over preceding week’s figure of Rs16,485.815bn. Current week’s figure is higher by 4.70pc compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs15,836.126bn.

Borrowings by all scheduled banks decreased in the week under review by 1.63pc

Total assets of all commercial banks stood at Rs16,331.078bn, higher by 0.59pc over previous week’s figure of Rs16,235.599bn, while total assets of specialised banks at Rs250.108bn were lower 0.09pc over the previous week’s Rs249.861bn.

Borrowings by all scheduled banks decreased in the week under review. It fell by 1.63pc to Rs2,037.169bn against previous week’s Rs2,070.982bn. Compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs2,435.593bn, current week’s figure is lower by16.40pc.

Borrowings by commercial banks in the week at Rs1,945.678bn were lower by 1.66pc against previous week’s Rs1,978.547bn. Borrowings by specialised banks stood at Rs91.491bn against the previous week’s figure of Rs92.436bn.

Investments of all scheduled banks stood at Rs6,732.834bn against preceding week’s figure of Rs7,064.319bn, lower by 4.70pc. Compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs7,849.355bn, current week’s figure is lower by 14.22pc.

Investments by all commercial banks stood at Rs6,680.575bn, lower by 4.70pc against preceding week’s figure of Rs7,010.549bn, whereas investment by all specialised banks stood at Rs52.258bn against preceding week’s figure of Rs53.770bn.
