Four of a family among eight killed in accidents

SHANGLA: Eight persons were killed and several others received injuries in separate road incident in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday.

Four people of the same family were killed and three others were injured when a mini-jeep fell into a ravine in Banjar area of Shangla.

An official at Alpuri police station told Dawn that seven people of a family were returning from a hospital when their jeep fell into a ravine in Chara Tangay area owing to some technical fault in the vehicle.

He said that Badrul Zaman, his two sons Ameenullah and Irfanullah, and Farhaboon were killed and Mr Zaman’s wife and two others were critically injured in the accident.

The injured and dead bodies were taken to district headquarters hospital in Alpuri wherefrom the two injured were referred to Saidu Teaching Hospital in Swat. Meanwhile, a house was gutted after fire broke out in it due to electricity short circuit on the suburbs of Alpuri on Thursday.

In Mansehra, a young boy and his sister, both students of a medical college, were killed when their car collided head-on with a truck in Datta area on Thursday.

Syed Husnain Shah and his sister Sadia Sumara were going to their home after attending classes at Frontier Medical College in Abbottabad when their car collided with the truck in an attempt to save a motorcyclist.

They were shifted to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital where doctors pronounced them dead.

In Khyber tribal district, a woman and a child lost their lives while eight more persons were injured when a passenger van overturned while on its way to Tirah valley.

Khasadar officials said that the ill fated vehicle met the accident in Nari Baba area on the main road from Bara to Bagh-Maidan in Tirah.

They said that names of the dead and injured could not be ascertained immediately while the injured were shifted to a nearby health facility.
