Pilac about to publish Punjabi dictionary

LAHORE: The Punjab Institute of Language, Art and Culture is about to publish a six volume Punjabi dictionary, first of its kind, with the help of 15 researchers.

Pilac Director General Dr Sughra Sadaf told Dawn that it was a huge project and had been a successful attempt. She said the dictionary to be finalised by June 31 would be launched in the first week of July.

Giving details on the research project of the dictionary, Sadaf said 15 researchers were hired by PILAC to carry out the project under an ADP scheme. The researchers were interviewed and selected. The researchers who worked on the project are: Iffat, Ashiq, Nayla, Azam, Hira Dilber, Aroba Nazim, Chand Shakeel, Muhammad Irfan, Huma Gulzar, Hira Shehzadi, Bushra, Kiran Shujja, Abdul Hafeez and Muhammad Naeem.

The project was headed by Dr Shahid Kashmiri, a retired professor of Punjabi language and literature. The director said the Punjab government approved the ADP scheme in 2016 and the project took a year and a half to get completed.
