BOMBAY: A Press note by the General Manager, G.I.P. Railways says: The General Manager, G.I.P. Railway, in continuation of the first communique issued yesterday [June 4] in connection with the accident which occurred to 1 Down Calcutta Mail between Bargaon and Akola, regrets that the casualties as now ascertained have risen to 66 killed and 140 injured. It is anticipated that the first list of casualties will be available in head office and exhibited at Victoria Terminus station, Bombay, as well as at Bhusaval and Nagpur stations and with the Divisional Transportation Superintendent, Bhusaval by this evening. The lists will be published in the Press as soon as they are received.
The District Medical Officer, G.I.P. Railway, Bhusaval, and our other doctors were travelling by the mail and were thus immediately able to render assistance to the injured when the accident took place. Further assistance was promptly given by the Civil Surgeon, Akola, and his staff, and the injured were removed by car, bus and train to Akola Civil Hospital. All assistance is being given to relatives of the injured or deceased passengers by the Railway authorities at the site of the accident. — Dawn Delhi
