Health officials face NAB probe

PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau has authorised inquiry against officials of health department for misuse of authority.

According to a statement, the officials are accused of violating rules in appointment of the hospital director of Mardan Medical Complex. The initiation of inquiry was approved in the meeting of regional board of NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa held here on Friday. The meeting was chaired by Farmanullah Khan, the director general of NAB (KP).

The board also authorised another inquiry against officials of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Service Commission over corruption in recruitment examinations. It also authorised inquiry against officials of mine and minerals development department over corruption and corrupt practices.

Similarly, an inquiry was approved against officers of Galiyat Development Authority for misuse of authority in illegal extension of expired lease of plots in violation of law. The board approved filling of reference against officials of Pakistan Customs Department, M/s FAS Tube Mills, M/s Paramount Steel Traders and others over corruption and misuse of authority.

The beneficiary accused persons in league with officials concerned fraudulently derived undue benefit from public exchequer in the form of duties and taxes exemption by making fake export claims at customs station, Torkham.

Another reference was approved against Sher Jan and Zahidullah for cheating public at large on the pretext of Mudaraba business worth million rupees.

The board authorised inquiry against officials of health department and others regarding misuse of authority. The provincial chief of NAB said that efforts would continue to eradicate corruption from the society. He said that eradication of corruption was only solution to many of the problems being faced by the nation.
