Ejaz questions Rs2bn grant for NA-125

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s senior leader Ejaz Chaudhry on Thursday raised questions against the grant of Rs2 billion for the NA-125 (formerly NA-120) and called it pre-poll rigging.

Speaking to media persons here, Mr Chaudhry said Rs2 billion special grant was issued by the federal government and sent to NA-125 through the Punjab governor. He asked whether the federal government issued Rs2 billion special grant to all the 274 National Assembly constituencies.

Mr Chaudhry quoted Tepa as having claimed that Rs2.4 billion were also spent in addition to the special grant without any valid reason. He also alleged that the government was reconstructing the roads that are in good shape. “Why the government is pumping in special funds for the NA-125 constituency,” he asked.

He said the PTI, once in power, would hold all state agencies including Tepa accountable. He said PTI candidate Dr Yasmin Rashid had taken the issue to court and the Election Commission of Pakistan but no reply had been submitted by the government so far. He said the contempt of court proceedings would be held on June 1.
