LAKKI MARWAT: A man and a woman were killed and three others sustained wounds when rival groups traded fire over a property dispute in Naurang town here, said police on Friday.
They said Nasrullah and Umar Bibi were killed and Saifullah and Farmanullah were injured from one side while a wounded boy from other side was identified as Aatif Khan.
Police said the incident occurred in Mangtra village, adding the bodies and wounded men were shifted to tehsil headquarters hospital, Naurang, where they were handed over to relatives after medico-legal formalities.
The police said that they had arrested two nominated accused after registration of separate cases under relevant sections of law and began investigation.
TEMPORARY CHECK POINTS SET UP: Police have set up temporary checking points at around 15 places and formed special teams to carry out patrol on important urban and rural roads to maintain law and order during Ramazan.
A source in police department said on Friday under Ramazan security plan the entire district had been divided into two sectors with sub-divisional police officers concerned tasked with ensuring implementation of the plan.
He said the temporary checking points had been established at busy public places, entry and exit points of the district and roads leading to frontier tribal regions. He said besides mobile patrol, arrangements had also been made for foot patrol in urban and rural areas.
TEACHERS SEEK PROMOTION: Office-bearers of teachers’ organisations have asked the education department to accelerate the process of promoting teachers to higher cadre posts.
Talking to journalists on Friday, they said promotion of school officers to higher scales would help fill the vacant posts of principals in high and higher secondary schools as newly-promoted teachers would be posted against such vacant posts.
They, however, condemned the government for not fulfilling promises with teachers’ community regarding approval of time-scale promotion formula and formulation of service structure.
A teachers’ leader, Gul Malook, said they would oppose any move to abolish the prevailing upgradation and promotion policy.
Another leader, Jamil Khan, said many teachers working against junior posts like PST and CT possessed M.Phil and PhD degrees and that the upgradation policy was the only option with them to get promotion to higher cadre posts.
