GHALANAI: A tribal elder escaped attempt on life while his driver was injured when his vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device near Sultankhel area of Haleemzai tehsil here on Sunday.

Malik Haji Ahmad Khwezai’s vehicle was passing the area when an IED planted by unknown miscreants went off, an official of local administration said, adding the elder remained unhurt in the blast. He said his driver, Alamgir, received injuries. He was taken to the agency headquarters hospital, Ghalanai, from where he was referred to a hospital in Peshawar.

Meanwhile, a fire erupted in the ammunition store of Levies camp in Ghalanai. However, the fire was extinguished before it could cause any damage.

Also, the Mohmand Rifles along with Levies and Khasadar forces conducted a search operation Malkhanai and Ala Dad Meena areas of Baizai subdivision, and recovered five empty SMG magazines and one 12-bore shotgun from a deserted house.

Also on Sunday, a woman was killed and two men were injured when two motorcycles collided near Sharab Kor Qandahari area of Safi tehsil. The victim was identified as Zeeba Bibi.
