PTI, PML-N stick to their guns on NAB chief’s issue

LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) condemns what it says undue pressure being exerted by disqualified prime minister Nawaz Sharif on the NAB chairman.

The PML-N, on the other hand, calls the NAB chairman’s notices to three-time prime minister false and mala fide.

The resolutions submitted to the Punjab Assembly by Opposition Leader Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed and MPA Saadia Suhail Rana stated that Nawaz Sharif’s statement was tantamount to harassing the NAB chairman. They said NAB was working to eliminate corruption according to law and Constitution.

Mr Rasheed said the House acknowledged that it was standing alongside NAB and other state institutions. He said the PTI fully supported NAB’s action against the corrupt. Nawaz would go to jail and seek apologies but would not be able to go to Jeddah, he said.

The opposition leader demanded that the chief justice of Pakistan constitute a commission to probe the laundering of billions of dollars to India and said demand for NAB chairman’s resignation was ridiculous.

Ms Rana in her resolution lauded the NAB chairman for his actions aimed at eliminating corruption. She stated that a disqualified person held no moral authority to demand resignation from the NAB chairman.

PML-N MPA Rahila Khadim Hussain submitted a resolution to the Punjab Assembly condemning NAB chairman’s false and mala fide notices to Nawaz. She stated that NAB was eroding its sanctity and its chairman lost moral authority to continue serving on the constitutional post. She demanded that the NAB chairman resign from his post and seek an apology from the ex-premier.
