Vinod and Aqeel score contrasting wins; Zain in semis

KARACHI: Talented Vinod Das overcame a stiff challenge to beat Farhan Altaf in the quarter-final while Aqeel Shabbir cruised past Hamza Bhatti in the other quarter-final of the 6th Westbury Open Tennis Championship being played here at Karachi Gymkhana courts on Tuesday.

In the under-17 single semis, Mujahidullah Khat­tak was stretched to the full by Abdul Samad of Hydera­bad before the former won the match.

In the under-11 singles quarters, skilful Zain Ehtes­ham diplayed superb tennis to beat Duraf Das 8-1.

U-11 singles (quarter-final) Zain Ehtesham bt Duraf Das 8-1

U-9 singles (semifinal) Nael Mirza bt Haris Abbas 8-4

Soft tennis (semifinal) Yumna Malik bt Tehreem Yousuf 5-2.
