Anti-judiciary rant in Kasur: MPs, others put on ECL, court told

LAHORE: The Kasur police on Monday told the Lahore High Court that names of PML-N’s two parliamentarians and four others involved in staging an anti-judiciary protest demonstration had been placed on the exit control list.

Kasur district police officer Zahid Marwat submitted a report to the effect before a three-judge full bench headed by Justice Syed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi and also produced the suspects including MNA Waseem Akhtar, MPA Naeem Safdar, Municipal Committee chairman Ayaz Khan, vice chairman Ahmad Latif, Nasir Khan and Jamil Khan.

The bench was hearing multiple petitions against anti-judiciary speeches by ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam and other leaders of PML-N.

Petitioner’s counsel Azhar Siddique sought the bench’s permission to show the video of the protest rally held by the PML-N leaders in Kasur. Senior lawyer Ali Ahmad Kurd appeared on behalf of MNA Akhtar while counsel for other suspects also filed their power of attorneys.

The bench adjourned the matter till May 9 and directed the office to make arrangements for showing the video on an electronic device on the next hearing.

The bench also deferred till May 23 an identical matter against alleged contemptuous speech by interior minister Ahsan Iqbal. The minister was directed to appear in person before the bench on Monday, however, he sustained bullet injuries in an attack made on him the other day.
