GB minister accuses NAB of occupying special persons’ hostel

GILGIT: Gilgit-Baltistan Education Minister Mohammad Ibrahim Sanai has accused the National Accountability Bureau of occupying the hostel of special education complex in Gilgit city, depriving special persons of the accommodation facility.

He expressed his inability to get the building vacated from NAB.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of special education complex in Skardu on Wednesday, he said the complex remained inoperative for many years.

“I was informed that some people planned to occupy the complex’s land, but the Gilgit-Baltistan chief secretary Dr Kazim Niaz intervened in the matter,” he said.

The minister alleged when GB government handed over special education complex hostel to NAB for establishing its offices one and a half year ago, he personally requested Chief Minister Hafeezur Rehman to get the building back from NAB, but to no avail.

He requested the chief secretary to intervene into the matter.

Mr Sanai said special education complex in Skardu had been established to provide education facility to special students from four districts of Baltistan division, including Skardu, Shigar, Kharmang and Ghanche. He promised merit-based appointments in the complex.

On the occasion, chief secretary Kazim Niaz said it was their priority to provide equal facilities to special persons.

“We need to extend extra care to the special persons so that they can spend a dignified life,” he stressed.

On the occasion, secretary education Khadim Hussain said this was the second education complex inaugurated in GB after the one in Gilgit.

The special education complex building has facility of a hostel, classrooms and offices for teachers.
