SC sets up human rights cells in Karachi, Lahore

ISLAMABAD: The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, has established two branches of human rights cells at Karachi and Lahore to ensure better access to justice for the deprived, destitute and vulnerable segments of society.

Earlier there was only one office of the human rights cell at Islamabad.

The CJP has upgraded the human rights cell of the court as the Directorate of Human Rights. The same will help in better handling of applications relating to human rights issues, which in the last few months have increased five times.

The CJP has also set up a Minority Wing at the Human Rights Directorate in Islamabad to ensure that rights of minorities are properly safeguarded as required by the Constitution and international instruments.
