From the past pages of dawn: 1943: Seventy-five years ago: Jinnah’s triumphal procession

DELHI: Scenes of unprecedented enthusiasm were witnessed in the city of Delhi this evening [April 23] when Mr. M.A. Jinnah, President-elect of the 30th session of the All-India Muslim League was taken out in a two-mile long procession through the principal thoroughfares of the city decorated with flags and triumphal arches.

Starting from the Central office of the All-India Muslim League at Daryaganj at 4-30 p.m., the crowd began to swell as the procession vended its way through Juma Masjid, Esplanade Road and Chandi Chowk. Thousands of people lined the route and occupied every vantage point to catch a glimpse of the Quaid-i-Azam who sat in an automobile vehicle bedecked with garlands and flowers.

Passing through Fatehpuri, Hauz Qazi and Ajmeri Gate, the procession reached the venue of the League session at 7-30 where Mr. Jinnah performed the flag-hoisting in the presence of a huge gathering. In a short speech the President reiterated the determination of the Muslim India to achieve their cherished goal of Pakistan. — Dawn Delhi
