400 public vehicles impounded

ISLAMABAD: More than 400 public service vehicles were impounded by the police for various violations, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) said on Monday.

The operators of the vehicles were found over-charging, accommodating men on women’s seats, overloading and misbehaving with passengers.

The traffic police have started a campaign against public service vehicles which violate the law and took action against 10,620 such vehicles other than impounding 400 vehicles during the last two days.

Separate ITP teams were deployed at various stops to keep a check on the vehicles and that operators who are found overloading, overcharging or misbehaving with passengers more than one time will have their route permits cancelled.

The police said directions have also been issued to drivers to display the fare list in the vehicles and passengers can lodge complaints at the ITP helpline.
