Pindi, Attock police to review new airport security

RAWALPINDI: Senior police and intelligence officers of Rawalpindi and Attock will visit the new Islamabad International Airport to review security arrangements for the airport.

The new airport is located in areas of Attock and Rawalpindi districts.

A formal request had been made to the Regional Police Officer (RPO) Rawalpindi and Inspector General of Police Punjab to set up police check posts and launch patrolling around the airport.

Adviser to Prime Minister on Aviation, Sardar Mehtab Khan, had also discussed setting up of police post during his last meeting held at Benazir Bhutto International Airport.

He had directed that the security mechanism for new airport should be based on latest technology and security check should be hassle free for the passengers and visitors.

A shrine located in front of tower where a large number of people visit and may cause security risk for the airport was also discussed and it was decided to establish a police check post on permanent basis as the area comes under the limit of local police.

It was also decided to provide all facilities to the law enforcement agencies at new airport.

Senior police and intelligence officials will be headed by RPO Fakhar Sultan Raja and SSP Special Branch will finalise establishing police posts and patrolling around the new facility.

The new airport will formally be opened for international and domestic flights on May 3.
