Bank borrowings fall by 19.09pc

According to the weekly statement of position of all scheduled banks for the week ended April 6, 2018 deposits and other accounts of all scheduled banks stood at Rs12,282.435 billion after a 2.29 per cent decrease over the preceding week’s figure of Rs12,571.277bn.

Compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs10,961.493bn, the current week’s figure was higher by 12.05pc.

Deposits and other accounts of all commercial banks stood at Rs12,210.393bn against preceding week’s deposits of Rs12,498.356bn, showing a fall of 2.30pc.

Total assets of all scheduled banks stood at Rs15,977.426bn, lower by 3.89pc over preceding week’s figure of Rs16,624.351bn. Current week’s figure is higher by 5.05pc compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs15,209.181bn.

Deposits decline by 2.29pc; total assets lower by 3.89pc

Total assets of all commercial banks stood at Rs15,723.833bn, lower by 3.86pc over previous week’s figure of Rs16,355.789bn, while total assets of specialised banks at Rs253.593bn were lower 5.57pc over the previous week’s Rs268.561bn.

Borrowings by all scheduled banks decreased in the week under review. It fell by 19.09pc to Rs1,435.534bn against previous week’s Rs1,774.272bn. Compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs2,155.075bn, current week’s figure is lower by 33.38pc.

Borrowings by commercial banks in the week at Rs1,345.860bn were smaller by 19.55pc against previous week’s Rs1,673.113bn. Borrowings by specialised banks stood at Rs89.675bn against the previous week’s figure of Rs101.159bn.

Investments of all scheduled banks stood at Rs6,807.044bn against preceding week’s figure of Rs6,853.021bn, lower by 0.67pc.

Compared to last year’s corresponding figure of Rs7,696.002bn, current week’s figure is lower by 11.55pc.

Investments by all commercial banks stood at Rs6,750.544bn, lower by 0.48pc against preceding week’s figure of Rs6,783.429bn.
