Abida to run for NA-115 as independent

JHANG: Former federal minister and ex-ambassador to US Syeda Abida Hussain plans to contest election from NA-115, an important constituency mainly comprising urban area.

She had won the seat in 1988 by defeating late Maulana Haq Nawaz Jhangvi. Talking to newsmen at her residence Shah Jewana House here on Sunday, she said she would contest as an independent candidate on the “demand” of her supporters and voters.

She said people of the constituency were fed up with the poor performance of ruling party MNA as the city presented the look of a war-torn town. “If elected, I will work for the improvement of health and educational facilities.”

Responding to a question, Abida said she would soon approach the prime minister for the completion of an approved project of the University of Jhang.

The former federal minister said public service delivery matters which were being perused by the Chief Justice of Pakistan should have been solved by the rulers. Abida Hussain said security situation was better in the country and withdrawal of extra security might not affect their personal security.
