From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1968: Fifty Years Ago: Habeas corpus petition

KARACHI: A division bench of the West Pakistan High Court Karachi yesterday [April 18] adjourned till today the judgement on a Habeas Corpus petition filed on behalf of Shahinshah Hussain, a local law student, by Malik Ghulam Gilani, a former MNA. The bench consisted of Mr Justice I.B. Khamisani and Mr Justice Abdul Kadir Shaikh.

The court adjourned the judgement as Malik Ghulam Gilani was not present. He was reported to have left for Lahore in connection with some urgent work.

In the petition, Malik Ghulam Gilani has challenged the detention of Shahinshah Hussain under the Defence of Pakistan Rules since January last. — Agency

[Meanwhile, as reported by an agency in London,] the Army and Police took over power in Sierra Leone last night [April 17], the Commo­nwealth Secretariat confirmed here today.

According to latest reports reaching the Secretariat, the coup d’etat began with a mutiny by Police officer cadets stationed in the Freetown suburbs and that there has been looting in the city itself.
