Eighth Wage Board constituted

ISLAMABAD: The federal government constituted the Eighth Wage Board for Newspaper Employees on Wednesday.

According to a notification issued by the ministry of information and broadcasting, Shahid Mehmood Khokhar has been appointed as chairman of the board for 180 days.

Ten members of the board were also named. They are Hameed Haroon of Dawn Group, Rameeza Nizami and Shoaibuddin of Nawa-i-Waqt Group, Asif Zubairi of Business Recorder, Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami of Daily Pakistan, Jang Group’s Sarmad Ali, Sahibzada Zulfiqar of PFUJ, APNEC chief Shafiuddin Ashraf, Bakhtzada Yousafzai of Daily Aaeen and Nasir Chishti, who heads the Jang Workers Union.

Marriyum Aurangzeb, the minister of state for information and broadcasting, congratulated journalists over the wage board’s formation during a gathering at Islamabad’s National Press Club. “The constitution of the Wage Board is the fruit of a long struggle by journalists after they were deprived of their right for the last 16 years,” the minister said.

She praised newspaper owners for giving their consent to the move.
