Four killed as car plunges into ravine

MUZAFFARABAD: Three women and a man were killed when a car they were travelling in plunged into a ravine on Monday, police said.

The ill-fated car was returning from Harriyala Gujjran village, where the victims had gone to offer condolences to someone, to Malsi village near town of Garhi Dupatta, some 20 kilometres south of Muzaffarabad, when it met the accident amid heavy downpour, said Garhi Dupatta SHO Ishtiaq Gillani.

“While negotiating a curve on the hilly road, the vehicle went out of the driver’s control and fell into the 300 feet deep ravine at about 5:30pm,” he said. As a result, three women Salima, Parveen, Shahnaz and driver Zaheer died on the spot.

Separately, a 57-year-old man was killed and another two were injured when their vehicle fell from a road in Dhanna village of tehsil Khuiratta in Kotli district at about 6:15pm on Monday, according to an official in the area.

The deceased who was behind the wheel was identified as Raja Ashiq, and the injured as Waqas Siddique, 22, and Junaid Javed, 23.
