THIS is apropos the letter ‘Karachi and Sindh’ (April 10). I agree with the writer that Karachi is geographically, politically and economically inseparable from Sindh. Thus, the term ‘Karachi and Sindh’ is politically incorrect and should not be used by the media.

Historically speaking, since the British conquered Sindh, they made Karachi the capital of the province. In their correspondence, they still wrote ‘Karachi, Sindh’, because the British are careful and the use of a simple comma between the words ‘Karachi’ and ‘Sindh’, conveys the true sense of the term.

I have never read terms like ‘London and England’, or ‘New Delhi and India’ or ‘Lahore and Punjab’. The term ‘Karachi and Sindh’ is used by some mischief-makers to drive a wedge between different sections of the population of Sindh, while Sindhis of different schools of thought are united on common points. The indivisibility of their ancestral homeland is one of them.
