From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1968: Fifty Years Ago : ‘Ghusal’ of Data tomb

LAHORE: Maunds of rosewater and a large quantity of scent were poured over the tomb of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh on Monday afternoon [April 8] in connection with the Ghusal ceremony of the Mazar.

The Education and Auqaf Minister, Mr Muhammad Ali Khan, was the first to pour rosewater over the tomb to the accompaniment of chanting of verses from the Holy Quran. He was followed by the Chief Administrator of Auqaf, Mr M. Masud, the Central Education Secretary, Mr Qudratullah Shahab, Mian Miraj Din and Chaudhri Idd Muhammad, MPAs and other members of the Urs committee.

Thousands of devotees, who had thronged to the shrine, rushed out with water containers and empty bottles to get a few drops of the water used in the Ghusal. The ceremony lasted for about 45 minutes.

The ceremony over, a silver scarf and a chaddar inscribed with Kalima were presented to the Education and Auqaf Minister as a souvenir. Similar gifts were also presented to other prominent participants of the Ghusal.
